Climate Health and Disability Inclusion
Our project is designed to empowering the local community to adapt and build resilience to the health impacts of climate change through several targeted initiatives and strategy which is aligned with the donor’s guideline :
Empowering Women and Girls: By empowering women and girls to take active roles in their communities, we enhance their ability to lead climate adaptation efforts. Their involvement ensures that health interventions are inclusive and address the specific needs of vulnerable groups, making the community more resilient to climate-induced health challenges.
Promoting Health Equity and Gender-Responsive Services: Our project ensures that health services are accessible to all, especially women, girls, and marginalized groups. By promoting gender-responsive services, we address the unique health vulnerabilities caused by climate change, such as increased risks during pregnancy or heightened exposure to vector-borne diseases, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Community Engagement and Capacity Building: We engage the community in health initiatives, providing training and resources to build local capacity. This enables the community to better manage and respond to health challenges related to climate change, such as heatwaves, floods, or the spread of climate-sensitive diseases.
CSO Engagement: By engaging civil society organizations (CSOs) and building their capacity, we strengthen the overall health system’s ability to respond to climate-related health issues. CSOs play a crucial role in advocacy, service delivery, and community outreach, making them essential partners in building community resilience.
Establishing Health System: Our project works to establish a robust and resilient health system that can withstand the pressures of climate change. By integrating climate adaptation into health, planning and ensuring that health services are responsive to environmental changes, we help the community maintain health and well-being in the face of a changing climate.
Linking Community with Government Health Services: Strengthening connections between the community and government health services ensures that individuals have access to necessary healthcare, particularly in the wake of climate-related events. This includes access to treatment for climate-aggravated conditions and diseases.
Inclusive Policy Advocacy and Policy Reinforcement: Through community mobilization, our project will raise awareness about the health impacts of climate change and advocate for policies that prioritize health equity. By involving the community in policy discussions, we ensure that local voices are heard and that policies are responsive to the needs of those most affected by climate change. The community will advocate for policies that reinforce health equity and gender-responsive services, ensuring that marginalized groups receive the support they need. By pushing for these policy changes, we contribute to a more resilient health system capable of withstanding climate-related pressures.
Community driven data collection or analysis: By involving the community in data collection and analysis, we empower them to better understand the health impacts of climate change within their specific context. This localized knowledge enables informed decision-making and proactive health measures. Tailoring health interventions to the community’s unique needs makes them more effective and sustainable. Additionally, the community can identify emerging climate-related health threats, such as heat-related illnesses or the spread of vector-borne diseases. This approach fosters ownership of local health outcomes and provides valuable data for advocating policy changes at the local and regional levels. Through these efforts, SPACE project not only addresses immediate health concerns but also builds long-term resilience in the face of climate change, ensuring that the local community can adapt to and thrive in changing environmental conditions.
