TB Awareness and Rights Advocacy by Samprity Aid Foundation – August 2024

In August 2024, Samprity Aid Foundation organized two Community Awareness Meetings in different villages to promote the rights of individuals affected by Tuberculosis (TB) in Bangladesh. Supported by “Stop TB Partnership” and “UNOPS,” these meetings aimed to educate participants on TB prevention, inform them of the rights of TB-affected individuals, and combat the social stigma associated with the disease.
A total of 80 community members attended, where they learned about TB transmission, the importance of early diagnosis, and the necessity of completing treatment. The foundation also emphasized the legal and social rights of TB patients, encouraging respect and equal treatment. Personal testimonials from TB survivors were shared, which helped humanize the issue and begin shifting community perceptions.
Despite the challenges of addressing deep-rooted stigma, the meetings were well-received, with participants expressing a greater understanding of TB and a commitment to supporting those affected. Moving forward, Samprity Aid Foundation plans to continue these awareness efforts, expand to other regions, and strengthen partnerships with local health authorities to ensure ongoing support and reinforcement of these messages.
